Our lovely couple, Kasey and Michael will be tying the knot this spring and when I saw their e-pics, I thought how creative they were to do them at San Diego Zoo's Safari Park (Formally San Diego Wild Animal Park.) Celebrating Valentine's Day

I can't believe January is done and Valentine's Day is just around the corner! Wow... time flies fast when you're having fun! In honor of the traditional hallmark holiday, my lovely and I celebrate very low key. This is because although the pink stuff tickles my fancy, it's overrated! The expensive dinner, the crazy gifts and of course, the hectic and busy restaurants! Don't get me wrong... we did it our first couple years together, but after that we changed things up to something more simple. For the past several years we celebrate each other and our relationship.

A great way to get into the spirit of this is to exchange mini cards of love. We did 14 reasons why I'm in love with you, exchanged them and read them to one another. We have our version of a fancy dinner in our backyard complete with candles,our fireplace, wine (beer for lovely) and a 3 course menu we've never made before.

For our place setting, I used a favorite dress of mine which had ripped and was put in the salvation pile, cut it up and used as our napkins.

There are many other ways to celebrate which I discovered online and found as inspiration. Maybe we'll incorporate some or all of these one year. I really loved this bingo set. Although it would be fun to play bingo, we would need more than just the 2 of us!

The idea of writing "52 things I love about you" would be very similar to the "14 reasons why I love you" we have already done, but how cute is this deck of cards? A very simple, but expressive way to show your love how much they mean to you.

Real Wedding: Jenevie & David

If you follow me on twitter, you must have seen all my tweets regarding one of my best friends wedding. We grew up together and she's practically my sister! I was honored and blown away when she asked me to coordinate her wedding! Without any hesitation, I replied "hell yeah!". I was in shock she would trust me with everything. Although I was about 6 months pregnant, I had a blast and it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever attended. There was so much love around, you can just feel it and these stunning images captured by Sasha Photography says it all. The wedding took place at The Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco on a winter December day and it was remarkable.... stunning.... and just unbelievable!

When you entered the ballroom, it was jaw dropping! It's pure elegance with the chandeliers above, the dim lighting and gobo which matched her paper stationery, the fireplace lit and the sounds of the bell choir made the ballroom look and feel so magical.

The bride and groom looked so great! Calm, relaxed and just happy explains their mood right before walking down the aisle.

After the ceremony, we turned down the ballroom into the reception area. It happened so fast and turned out beautifully. Kings tables lined the ballroom around the dance floor and the head table was front and center. The tall flower candelabras were the attention getter with tea light candles lit on the tables.

Their menu was exquisite! Surf and turf... YES please!!! To go with their San Francisco theme, they even served claim chowder in sourdough bread bowls. Everything was delicious including the dessert we had after our meal. The tables were even named after famous San Francisco streets.

I just love this picture of Jenevie and David. When they first entered the ballroom as Mr. and Mrs, this photo was taken candidly of their joy and love for all their guests in attendance.

This couple is HOT! The bride rocked beautifully a Vera Wang gown and her bouquet was filled with feathers and white peonies. Their escort cards duplicated as favors following their San Francisco theme during the holiday season; a cable car ornament.

Their cake matched her sash and was dark chocolate with burnt almond sponge, woven with coffee induced creme. Thinking about it just makes my mouth water!

Jen and David share a very special place in my heart and I couldn't be any happier for them! They mean the world to me and I'm so blessed I was able to share this incredible journey of planning their wedding. It's something I'll always cherish and never forget!!! I can't wait to see their video. I saw clips during the ceremony and they were ahhh-maze-ing!!!

The creative mastermind behind it all was Jen and I just executed her needs. Our creative team rocked it and they were all so fantastic to work with! Many thanks again!

Save the Date Magnet: Pantone Color of the Year 2012

Pantone released it's color of the year and announced Tangerine Tango. This vibrant reddish, orange color just pops and lucky for us, our client is using this color for her upcoming spring wedding. With a touch of Chinese flair, they will be incorporating the double happiness symbol in parts of their wedding which is a cute personalization of the bride.

Nursery Inspiration: Pink and Gray

We've been hard at work preparing our baby girl's nursery. We decided with the colors of pink and gray because pink is my favorite color and gray is lovely's. I made an inspiration board so I can get him on the same page and it worked! ;) Can't wait to show you when it's all done... it's so exciting!

Pretty in Pink Baby Shower

We're having a girl!!! Yes, we're expecting in March and we're just thrilled! We did a gender reveal cake back in November and it was so much fun to have our close friends and family with us. I can clearly remember my thoughts and emotions seeing the PINK cake! My heart was pounding and I was so overjoyed!

This past weekend, I felt the same emotions when my mom and best gal friends threw me a pretty in pink baby shower. Everything was perfect and looked fabulous! They are so amazing and everything they did was so beautiful!

My mom made these ribbon chandeliers that hung above the tables. The simplicity of it is beautiful!

I loved this banner! It's now in the baby room and we cant wait to use it for our maternity session.

The tablescape was beautiful! Fit for the wonderful ladies in my life, each guest received a bath and body works spray with a strawberry flavored whoopie pie. They also got a "Wishes for Baby" card that I adored reading after the shower. I put them in baby's scrapbook so she can read them one day too.

Everything coordinated so beautiful! Thanks again, Jo! She did an amazing job with all the banners and even coordinated the look for the diaper game! She's one crafty gal I tell ya and her work is awesome! And thanks to Des for her master of ceremonies skill! =)

Our hearts just melted when we saw the diaper cake and ballerina slippers! They were so adorably cute, we were just in awwww! It really hit us and this picture says it all! LOVE it!

The dessert spread was incredibly good, including the guava cake my mom ordered! It was perfection! All the food was delicious too! I had a little more than a tasting to everything there!

The little girls even had their own table and favors!

I'm just the happiest mommy-to-be in the planet! Thanks so much to my wonderful mom and my besties for all they have done! Everything was beautiful and we're so grateful for it all! We couldn't feel anymore love and blessed!

Postage rates increasing

Yes, you heard it right. The USPS is increasing their rates. Effective January 22, 2012 their new rates will be as follows:

Letters (1 ounce) - Increase to $0.45
Postcards - Increase to $0.32

They still have their wedding forever stamps so if you want it at the $0.44 rate, get them before Sunday. Their new forever stamp will be in honor of Chinese New Year. I haven't seen the new postcard stamps, but hopefully they get rid of the herbs and get something cuter! To see more about the new adjustments, click here.

Trisha & Donny: E-pics & Invitations

Trisha and Donny did the cutest e-shoot with Anika London. Their pictures turned out great and really showed their personality. As avid travelers, the photo taken down below is one of my favorites! We designed their wedding invitations based on the vintage style their going for. It's going to be a great, big, happy wedding with over 300 guests and their big day is slowly approaching! Happy New Year! I can't believe it either! Time flies by so fast when you're having fun! As the twitter world is becoming more and more of my daily (if you don't already follow us, please do at www.twitter.com/dolldinedesigns and sorry for the lack in blog posts) I came across this recent blog post from one of the Kardashian sisters. The story really got to me and brought tears to my eyes. Read it below, give it some thought, be your best you and live your best life! Cheers to 2012!!!

My adventure in baking macaroons

Yes it was an adventure... a trial and error adventure! I received this book as a gift (thanks Jyn) and I thought I'd give some recipes a shot. This was my second attempt to making macaroons and I think they're much better the second time around. They say practice makes perfect so I think I better get on it.

The process is fairly simple, but it needs to be precise. Only 4 ingredients are needed; ground almonds, confectioners sugar, fine sugar and egg whites. You beat the egg whites along with the fine sugar, to form a peak and then mix that mixture in with the confectioners sugar and ground almonds. Simple enough right? I wish! I also studied this video to help me out, but I didn't use their recipe. I maybe should the next time around.

After you pipe the macaroons, you let it sit out for about a half hour so they form "feet" when baked. I took them out of the oven and saw their feet and thought, "SUCCESS!" I made a white chocolate ganache filling to put inside, took a bite and yes.... they turned out fantastic!!!

Don't these look beautiful? I was so happy and proud! Now I have to attempt it again and see if I get the same results! Now you give it a try and let me know how it turns out!

Recipe taken from:
Macaroons-30 recipes for perfect bite-sized treats (with some minor tweaks)

3/4 cup ground almonds
1 cup confectioners sugar
2 extra large egg whites
1/4 cup superfine sugar

Place the ground almonds and confectioners sugar in a food processor and process for 15 seconds. Put the mixture into a bowl. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Place the egg whites in mixer and whip until holding soft peaks. Gradually add super fine sugar to make a firm, glossy meringue. Using a spatula, fold the almond/sugar mixture into the meringue mixture. Fold until all dry ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. Do not over beat! Put the batter into pastry bag fitted with 1/2 inch tip and pipe small circles onto your lined baking sheets. Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes. Cool and peel from parchment paper.

8 ounces white chocolate morsels
3/4 cup heavy cream

Place chocolate in a mixing bowl where it can stand heat. I used a stainless steel bowl. Bring heavy cream to a boil and pour over chocolate. Stir until chocolate is melting and smooth. Once cooled, put desired amount on macaroons and serve.

And BTW- I'm not sure of the correct spelling. I see "macaroons" and "macarons." Which one is it?

Navy blue and white heart damask Invitation: Prado Balboa Park

I've been doing several damask invitations lately and this one I did for Maureen and John is different because it's a heart. It's definitely striking with their colors a rich navy blue and white. The outside is adorned with a white satin ribbon that also has the design they will be using throughout their wedding.

To finish off the invitation, they included 2 inserts with the RSVP card as a postcard.

Occasionally we get DIY brides, who choose to do it themselves and Maureen was one of them. She's already crafty and since she DIY'ed their Save the Dates, she opted for DIY invitations. With the help of her crafty bridal party, I know they turned out beautifully! Can't wait for their big day!

Melanie and Robert's Invitations

When I first met with Melanie and Robert, they already had a vision of what they wanted their invitations to look like. They even had inspiration for their colors taken from a book cover, East of The Sun. We did some revisions and the final invitation were amazing. We had them printed in a high glossy finish and inserted into a pocketcard envelope.

They designed their own save the date postcards and I was so happy when I received one in the mail! They are the cutest couple... I felt like I knew them with only meeting through Skype!

Heart of the Harvest Charity Event

Chic black and white invitations

My cousin is getting married this December and I couldn't be happier for her and her fiance, David! She is chic, classic, modern and a very talented graphic designer. As a couple, they designed their invitations and it's STUNNING! They are letterpressed on cotton paper and she was inspired to use the design which is actually the ceiling in the ballroom of the place they will be married!

The belly band is a black gingham ribbon adorned with a crystal framed brad and to finish the look, custom stamps where adhered to both outer envelope and the rsvp. When I came home to visit, I was honored to help the assembly along with my other cousins. It was such a great time, I wish we can do that more. Being around crafty and talented people makes my heart flutter!

Black and white is so sleek! I know their wedding will be beautiful and I can't wait to be a part of it! After receiving it the mail, I was drawn to my bedside...maybe because I'm inspired by the same colors!

Karlee knew she wanted something different and unique for her paperie suite and her save the dates were just that. She had seen many ideas, but the one she really loved was a balloon. We designed the ivory metallic balloon to have the contents so when inflated, it would read the special news!

Calendar Save The Date Magnets: Purple Plum and Champagne Gold

These calendar save the dates were a true labor of love and I have to admit, I had quite a bit of help from my lovely. (Thanks, love!) Our dear friend is getting married so when he asked us to create his wedding suite, we agreed and jumped on board! They wanted something different to send their guests, so we created these one of a kind calendars...

I designed mini calendars that can be ripped out as each month passed. To remind guests of the big day, a heart was placed on their wedding date. A magnet was also adhered onto the back so guests can put on a place that's magnetized, most generally the refrigerator.

Shannon sent me photos from their big day and they are so sweet. We never met in person, so it's even more fun seeing their pictures, but I felt like I already knew her because she was referred by her her sister, Britne who was one of our past brides. Their ceremony and reception was held at The Navy Golf Course in Cypress, CA with a gorgeous backdrop of the lake. We also posted their invitation suite in another post, so take a look!

Becoming more and more popular, wedding websites are a great supplement to have along with your invitations. It is a place where you can have detailed information about you as a couple, where and how you met, favorite photos together and of course, the story of the proposal. It's a great way to tell your guests a more personal side of you as a couple.

It is also used to put information on some of the things you maybe didn't include in your invitations. Some of those are detailed directions, maps, hotel accommodations, and fun things to do around town. This is also the place to put any gift registries since having them on your invitations is an etiquette no-no.

Many of the wedding websites are free, but there are others that have more features and come with a monthly or one time fee. Browse around different ones and put some time into them. That way you can get your guests to visit your site and get them more excited about the big day!

Pink and Blue Wedding Invitations

I can't say it enough, but I truly love working within the family! They are just the sweetest and I'm flattered with the referral. My past bride, Britne referred her sister, Shannon to me and she couldn't be any easier to work with! The sweetness just runs in the family! She wanted to use watermelon and cerulean as their colors so we paired it with Envelopments' color dragonfly and fashionista.

Because she chose not to use pockets, we wrapped her flat card with a belly band instead and it housed her reception and direction inserts. This way everything is in tact and not loose in the envelope.

I'm a little late in my postings, but I just got pictures back from their wedding and I can't wait to share!

To celebrate, I'll be cooking my favorite homemade chicken enchiladas served with some chips and salsa and of course, we'll be having a few adult beverages! I was watching the Food Network when I came across this recipe, but since I'm more of an "on-the-rocks" kinda gal, I changed it up a bit. It's delicious so give it a try!

Chunky Strawberry Daiquiri (on-the-rocks)

10 fresh strawberries cleaned and cut into 4

1 cup lemonade juice

1 cup orange juice

coconut or pineapple rum (my choice is coconut)

triple sec (optional)

lime wedges

sugar

Mash strawberries in a bowl and place in pitcher. Add juices, rum, optional triple sec to the pitcher and sprinkle sugar to sweeten. Rub the rim of the glass with lime and roll the glass in sugar. Garnish with strawberries. Pour into glass, serve and enjoy!

Back in March, I designed bachelorette party invitations for a maid-of-honor who planned a day wine tasting in Napa. She wanted a wine theme, but also something girly to represent the bride-to-be. Here is the finished invitation!

I know these ladies had a wonderful time. What more can you ask for.... a limo ride, wine tasting, food and girls time... nothing is better!

Bridesmaid Thank You Cards

A "thank you" goes a long way. It can be in any form and it's really just the gesture to make that person feel your expression of gratitude! My bride asked me to design her personalized thank you cards for each of her bridesmaids and I thought it was the sweetest thing!

She gave me all their names and words that best describe each of them. She wants them to know how special they are and thank them for being a part of a special day in her life.

So as a token of her appreciation, she will be giving them 2 necklaces to wear on the wedding day. To include both necklaces on the card, we created custom slits with a plastic pocket in the back for the chains.

I designed them to match her invitations which I will feature shortly so stay tuned!

Please HELP: For Japan With Love

Remember Cyndi and Jose's invitations we featured a while back? She sent over photos from their special day taken by Joel Dellosa Photography and they are all just beautiful. Cyndi is a friend of mine and we were honored to be guests at their wedding (and we had a blast!) One of the sweetest parts of the reception was when the bride and her son took the stage for a duet to sing a special song for her groom (and his dad), "I'll be there" originally done by the Jackson 5. It was adorable and beautifully done! The ceremony was held at St. Therese of Carmel, which is an absolutely gorgeous church and the reception took place at Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club. Everything was done seamlessly thanks to the bride herself!

Congratulations again Cyndi and Jose! I wish you both a life long of happiness of joy!

Happy Valentine's Day

I thought I'd share with you a little love and I think you should too! Tell the people special in your life you love them not just today, but everyday... your significant other, family, friends, pets, teachers, troops... I can go on and on! Normally my lovely and I don't exchange gifts for V-day because we feel each day together is a gift, but to remind each other of that, we're going to exchange mini notes that say why we love each other, 14 notes each!

Now, I'm going to tell you 14 things about me that I personally LOVE:

1. I LOVE laughing! It keeps me happy, especially with my best girlfriends!

2. I LOVE that I'm blessed with the best man to be by my side... all the time!

3. I LOVE my parents! They have and always will be there for me.

4. I LOVE warm, white sheets and towels fresh out of the dryer.

5. I LOVE everything white! It's so plain, yet fresh and clean looking!

6. I LOVE simplicity. Things don't always have to be so difficult.

7. I LOVE Minnie Mouse. I think I have everything with her face on it!

8. I LOVE traveling. Visiting new places and seeing how people live excites me!

9. I LOVE Oprah! She encourages me to "live my best life"!

10. I LOVE the sound of the ocean. It really calms me.

11. I LOVE that my lovely calls me everyday, even for just a moment!

12. I LOVE craft stores. I could literally spend hours in there!

13. I LOVE desserts and sweets! It's so bad for me, but so hard to resist!

Since Valentine's Day is coming around the corner, I thought I would share some tasty treats. I'm a sucker for desserts and have a really bad sweet tooth! I'm doing a little lifestyle change where I cant eat everything I see, but who says we still can't look! Some of my favorites come from Martha Stewart.... If I can fit baking into my schedule, here are some I would choose.

If I were to just go out and purchase something (or hint to my lovely to purchase something for me), I have my list of favorites too! So here they are...

1. Macarons! I first feel in love when I had them at Bouchon in Napa. They are so divine! And if you're in the SoCal area, check out Sweet and Saucy Bakesh op. My lovely had business in Long Beach so he brought some for me on his way home and they were delish! Only if we lived closer. (BTW- if anyone knows of any spot in San Diego, please advise!)

2. Ice Cream Cake! You can never go wrong with ice cream. We've had this before special ordered with strawberry cheesecake ice cream and vanilla cake! I also love the size. It's perfect for 2!

3. Neapolitan Cake! OMG! This is by far the best cake I've even had! It comes from the filipino bakeshop Goldilocks which describes it as a layer each of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla chiffon cake filled with chocolate ganache and strawberry butter cream iced with vanilla butter cream. If that doesn't make your mouth water, I don't know what will!

So there you have my favorites to bake and take. All so good and if it weren't for my new lifestyle change, I'd have them all! What are your favorite desserts?

I have a bulletin board in the studio that I use to put some inspirational pieces on, but I wanted something more pretty than just plain cork. I also wanted something that reflects my style and the overall look in the studio . So when I found this $3.00 frame at the thrift store, I knew I had to grab it and do a little revamping of my own. Here is the before....

and with some white paint, chicken wire and the help of my lovely, here is the after! I completed an invitation suite that afternoon the frame got finished, so I thought it would be a perfect way to display it. I may end up using it for just that and creating a whole new inspiration board!

Two invitations: 18th birthday and wedding

I designed this birthday invitation for a friends sister who is turning 18. She is having a big party, in which the filipino tradition calls it a Debu; a celebration of a young woman turning 18. Some traditions at the party are 18 candles given to the debutant by her closest girl friends/family members and 18 roses given by her closet guy friends/family members. With a purple and fushia color palette, I'm sure it was a fun bash!

Tied a quarter ways is a 7/8 purple satin ribbon and a matching purple Swarovski crystal. Also included is a response postcard.
Next was a wedding invitation referred by my good friends Valley and Co. They are the sweetest so I knew I was in good hands when they introduced me to Denise. She's a rockin bride who wanted something different from traditional, but still chic. When she saw Christine's invitation she knew she wanted a similar look.

On this invitation, we used a smaller lilac satin ribbon and their enclosures were staggered with the response card on top of the directions insert.

So here are two different invitations done similarly and they turned out beautifully. Both clients were referrals, so I wanted to say thank you! The power of a referral is so incredibly amazing! I love these connections. It's from someone who recommends us and it's the best compliment received and we are so very grateful!

Sweets and treats party

I know I'm a couple weeks behind in posting, but I figure this party can be good for other holidays too. Since "happy hearts day" is coming up next month, it can also work for a valentine's day party! Any reason to get together works for me!

I invited some of my gal friends to come over for a fun night of sweets and treats! After each guest received an invitation, we were all ready to party!

I created a place setting for each guest and used gable boxes as a dual purpose; a place card and after the party, they filled their boxes with sweets and treats to take home.

I wanted to create a centerpiece that hung ornaments so I took branches off a tree and spray painted them gold. I then put it in a vase with red tinsel, placed white poinsettias and taaadahhh!

This is the dessert area where each guest was asked to place their treats on the platter provided. It worked out well and by the end of the night, everything was gone!

Some of the desserts we had were my red velvet whoopie pies, chocolate smore's bar, peppermint brownie cupcake and chocolate toffee brittle! hmmmm... yummy!

And of course, we had to have some fruit sangria! The party was a blast and I can't wait to host another one!

Red velvet whoopie pies

There were so many different types of desserts at my sweets and treats party. Because my to-do list was getting longer to the days leading up to the party, I knew I wanted to make something easy and tasty. What more do you need, right? So I baked red velvet whoopie pies. These were soooo yummy, I still dream about them. Give it a try yourself!

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies
1 box red velvet cake mix
1/3 cup oil
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix all ingredients until combined
Drop spoonfuls of batter onto baking sheet about 2 inches apart
bake for 10-12 minutes until cool

Cream Cheese Filling
1/2 cup butter, softened to room temperature
1 8oz. package of cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1 2lbs. bag of confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla

In a mixer, cream butter, cream cheese and vanilla
gradually add sugar and mix until smooth

Makes about 12 whoopie pies

Happy New Year! We've had a busy holiday season and we're now finally getting back into the swing of things around the studio. Before Christmas, I hosted a sweets and treats party for some of my girlfriends and I wanted it to be very similar to a cookie exchange. Instead of asking each guest to bring several dozen of cookies, I figured it would be twice as fun with an assortment of different desserts. Below is the invitation I sent out to the lovely ladies...

When you open the invitation, it had all the details of the party and what each guest should expect on the left side. It was my first time doing this so it was new for all of us!

For the reply cards, I asked each guest to send back their responses with their dessert of choice that way we didn't have any duplicates.

And lastly, I included recipe cards in the pocket for each guest to fill out. They were asked to bring the cards with their dessert so that each guest can take it home.

The ceremony was at St. Elizabeth Church in Pleasanton with the reception at the Bridges Golf Course in San Ramon. Tablescape

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday! I just wanted to share our tablescape since we had a non traditional Japanese dinner. It was an Asian Fusion theme and I think it can be used for any occasion. For easy decorating, I hung green lanterns over the table that matched the place mats I bought. They were the inspiration for the color scheme and it was 12X12 scrapbook paper I laid over red place mats.

I then purchased some pretty green spider mums (to match the lanterns) and put them into single vases. The middle vase was bigger so I put 3 flowers along with black river rocks and lit tea light candles across the table. For the table runner, I used bamboo place mats.

And the food was yummy! We had sushi, ahi tuna poke, seared albacore, bacon wrapped asparagus, fried rice, beef yakitori, teriyaki salmon, edamame and fried gyoza!

I hope you had a great dinner whatever you served! Our tree is up, lights are on, weather is cold and now... it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

If you follow me on twitter, then you may have heard for Thanksgiving this year, we are changing things up. We're having our dinner with a completely different twist doing Japanese Asian Fusion instead of the traditional turkey feast. Why? Well why not? Who doesn't love sake and sushi? We do! And because it's my birthday today, it's another reason to celebrate!

Bridal Shower: Meg & Doug

I worked with the Mother of the Bride for her daughter's bridal shower being hosted at her girlfriends house; another client of mine and also referred her to me. (I just love those connections!) Her daughter, Meg and future son in law, Doug are having a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at the beautiful Capella Resort. She wanted to incorporate their wedding colors and also include the Capella star and maracas on a custom made stamp for a finishing touch. It turned out beautifully! Congratulations to Meg and Doug!

As I mentioned before, JoAn was a true doll to work with! Her invitations were a 5X5 square in cocoa brown, classic ecru and pennylite orange.

We also created their menu cards for each place setting. For personalization, each menu was customized for each guest with their menu selection and doubled as place cards with belly bands that wrapped around the menu cards.

For the bride and groom, we created these signs that tied behind their beautiful chiavari chairs with chocolate brown satin ribbon.

Destination: Hawaii

Fall is in full swing so I though I would change things up and do a destination post. Why? Because I just love summer so much, I can't wait for it to come back! A favorite destination spot of mine is Hawaii. Without a doubt I would even call this my second home! Everything about the islands makes me feel complete... the people, the food, the weather, the culture, the vibe... everything! This past summer, we visited to attend one of the biggest concerts, KCCN's Birthday Bash 20, which happens only once a year and it was AMAZING! Beyond words, I can't even explain it... and below are just some highlights from a great vacation!

The above is one of our favorite spots in Oahu. A great place where we had a picnic and kayaked! Located at Lanikai beach it's so peaceful and the sand.... what more can I say about it.... it's GORGEOUS!

And wouldn't it be just great to get married here? (hint, hint ;) LOL) The Paul Mitchell Estate is immaculate and the view is spectacular! Of course you need to hire the fabulous Yvonne Design and Visionari who deserves full credit!

Diamond Head Crater is a must see. Even if the humidity is painful, the view from the top is pure BEAUTY! This view of Diamond Head is from Waikiki Beach....

Head towards the North Shore to Haleiwa and you'll discover the shrimp trucks.

Now with 2 locations in the North Shore, Giovanni's is a must! This picture just makes my mouth water! Look at that shrimp scampi!

And of course no visit to Oahu would be the same without paying our respect to Duke!

Engagement Pictures: JoAn & Wilfredo

A friend of mine referred her best friend, JoAn to me and I'm so happy she did! She was too sweet! Being from the bay area, she spent the weekend in San Diego and scheduled her consultation the same time. Wilfredo unfortunately was unable to attend the meeting, but we talked a lot about her groom and their special day. She sent over her engagement pictures taken by Alfred and Emma Photography and they are so adorable! The one below is my favorite!

Now this is a cool wall used for their backdrop. The detail in the art is awesome! I'm a local originally from the bay area as well, but I wonder where this wall is?

After seeing the images from Ashley and Tim's engagement shoot, I knew their wedding pictures would be absolutely gorgeous! Captured by True Photography and coordinated by Andrea of A Diamond Celebration, nothing was missed. All the paper stationery was done by us, Dolldine Designs and it was an honor working with such a fab couple! Held at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Sante Fe, the ceremony was in front of the lake as the perfect back drop. Congratulations again Ashley and Tim!

I love this picture! The way her father looks at Ashley as he walks her down the aisle. It's so touching, I can just feel the emotions!

We created their programs as a single flat card, but double sided. The ceremony order on front and the bridal party on the back tied with a blush pink satin ribbon.

Because the bride is a ballerina dancer, it would only be appropriate to have their favors be adorable cookies shaped as a ballerina slipper.

Ashley and Tim is the sweetest couple and I really enjoyed working with them on their summer wedding. With her love for ballerina dancing and his love for music as a composer, the two met and fell in love. Once I saw their engagement pictures, all I could saw was awwwwww! Just see for yourself!

Window Display Design Board

If you haven't been to The Bridal Bar, you have to go and check out their window display. When we get asked to do a display, we're to open to create anything that fits "a theme" and the options are endless. Because it's July, I thought it would be appropriate to do something with summer and the first thing that came to mind.... is the beach! I personally wish I can live there. A cute, yet small beach house would be just perfect! Together I worked with Tracey of Bahia Resort Hotel, Kool Party Rentals and Frankie of Hartworks Floral Design. I haven't seen the completed window yet, but this is what I designed.
I think it would be wonderful to have your wedding on the beach and it would be perfect here in sunny San Diego. Just check out the aerial view of the Bahia Resort... BEAUTIFUL!

I received an email from a long time friend and she told me she's getting married! I was excited to hear the good news and to hear from her because it's been so long! We had plenty of catching up to do along with discussing all her ideas for the wedding. She has asked me to design her wedding invitations and I am beyond thrilled! Her wedding colors will be apple green and brown so I created this inspiration board to fit just that.

Isn't it a great idea to incorporate apples for decoration to help cut costs on flower arrangements? I think it's brilliant! They will look cute at the escort table! And below are some of her engagement pictures taken by Joel Dellosa Photography. They're just an adorable couple!

We're #1..... Lakers Dessert Table

Today is THE BIG game! And in honor of today, I thought I'd share a dessert table I made for my game 1 Laker party. I served all purple and yellow treats including our household favorite... popcorn and nacho cheese! I even made white sangria with lemons and grapes (although it looked more yellow than white). The sweets were semi-homemade which included cupcakes, cookies, chocolate dipped pretzels and marshmallows. I used the same banner I created from last year with some minor changes and created cute little cupcake toppers. It was a delight! It's going to be a great game tonight.... 2 WORDS.... GO LAKERS!!!

The wedding shows at the vineyards are always fun. You leave with tons of great ideas... and of course some really great wine tastings! They had one recently at Orfila Vineyards and I was asked from Andrea of A Diamond Celebration to create place cards for her tablescape. I just received pictures and her display was beautiful. Flowers done by Hartworks Floral Design and the linens provided by Wildflower Linens, it was a perfect combination! Thanks again, Andrea!

Graduation Announcements

Tania came to me wanting something different for her graduation announcements. She didn't want the generic, classic ones purchased through school. Instead, she wanted something that showed her personality and really reflected her style. Down to her favorite font and colors, she loved how it turned out and so do I! She will be accepting her Masters Degree this coming May and I'm honored to say, Congratulations Tania on your achievement... I wish you the best on your future endeavors!

Now I want to reflect on the time when I graduated college. I remember it so clearly. So clearly as if it was yesterday. (well, really it wasn't thaaaat long ago) I remember the celebrations, the happiness I shared with my family, friends and class, but most importantly I remembered the quote our dean said, " When you leave here, don't forget the reason why you came!" and she used the quote from Dr. Seuss, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Congratulations to all the 2010 graduates!

Ballerina Inspired Save the Dates

Ashley was a bride referred from Andrea of A Diamond Celebration and I met both ladies together for the first time. They were both so sweet and prepared! She sent me the inspiration board to the left and after learning more about the couple, they both loved classical music. They wanted to incorporate it somehow and Ashley's love as a ballerina. I found some inspiration pictures myself along with her color palate of pale pinks and ivory to come up with their Save The Dates above. And so their guests can keep it handy, a magnet was placed on the back.

Destination: Mammoth Mountain

It was so nice arriving at Mammoth Mountain. Everywhere you looked, the sun sparkled off the snow. I was happy because it was a beautiful day... a perfect day for us and the best day the entire weekend!

Then overnight, it snowed! It snowed A LOT!!! I think about 3 feet. It covered our cars completely!
And from then on, the snow kept coming until we left on Sunday. I haven't been in those conditions in a long time and yes I did miss it. Only once a year though because I hate the cold!
And because I felt the need.... I had to represent!

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Favors

We made yummy chocolate covered pretzels as favors for the baby shower and they were a huge hit! Everyone loved them and they were gone so fast. We even had to hide some away. I think there's just something about salty and sweet that's really good. And surprisingly, they're so easy to make. Here's the instructions on how to create these for yourself:
1. Take plain pretzel sticks (we bought ours at a dollar store), chocolate candy melts (which you can buy here or at your local craft store) and a fairly deep bowl. 2. Melt the chocolate in a bowl by putting it in the microwave for about 20 seconds. Mix it up and if it's not completely melted, stick it back into the microwave for another 20 seconds. Keep doing this until it's smooth and runny. 3. Dip the pretzels into the chocolate and coat 3/4 of the way. While doing this, make sure you get a good layer on the pretzel.
4. Then take your topping (it can be sprinkles, chocolate shavings, mini m&m's, coconut, whatever) and sprinkle them onto the chocolate. Make sure you do this before the chocolate dries so that it will stick.
5. Place in a pan for the chocolate to dry completely and you're done!
6. To complete the favor, we bought pretzel stick bags at Michaels and stuck 1 pretzel inside each of the bags. We then tied it with ribbon and printed the tags on circle labels. They turned out so pretty! Now wasn't that easy? Try them out!

Baby Shower Recap

Thanks to the lovely ladies Kris and Kat, who helped make this possible. The shower was a ton of fun and Mommy is just about ready to give birth soon! I wish I took better photos, but pictured is the cake I made using the same design I created for the paper goods, the cute baby face I want to pinch. We also made diaper cakes as centerpieces for the tables that doubled as Mommy's gift and lastly the chocolate covered pretzel favors. They were a hit and so easy to make. I'll post a tutorial soon.

Congratulations again to Mommy and Daddy to be! They are anxiously waiting for Baby Marcus to arrive and so are we!

This wedding is absolutely gorgeous! All the little details and everything done will make you swoon! The amazing Karen Tran designed the flowers, Darin Fong captured the beautiful photography, the wedding coordination was done by Cathe rine Bachelier Smith (another fellow and talented Bridal Bar member), the awesome video was created by Modern 8 Films and all paper stationery was done by us, Dolldine Designs. The week in coming

It's going to be a long, fun week! There are many things going on that interests me. First and for most, it's NBA All Star Weekend in Dallas! If you know me and my Lakers (well... do I have to explain any further?) they ROCK and I'm a HUGE fan! Kobe will be playing along with Pau Gasol and the rest of the Western All Stars so it's a game not to be missed. Ohh and I can't wait to see Shannon Brown in the slam dunk contest!
It's also the start of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver with so many events planned all until the 28th. It's going to be exciting to watch Shaun White!!! Lets Go TEAM USA!

Then of course we have the Hallmark Holiday, Valentine's on Sunday. Don't know what my Lovely has planned for us, but this cake looks like something fun to do. i am baker created this great tutorial which she photographs so nicely! She makes it looks so easy to do, but wouldn't it be a cute surprise?

After the weekend, it's Mardi Gras and nothing is better than Fat Tuesday! PARTY TIME! I say that nicely because it's the beginning of lent for us and it means giving up something for 40 days! ekks!

Recipes: Whole Wheat Strawberry Banana Muffins

I was on a mission to find good, healthy muffins and I finally found it! They are made with whole wheat flour and applesauce which are healthy alternatives, but the key ingredients to make these muffins flavorful are ground cinnamon and vanilla extract. I found this recipe on allrecipes.com, but tweaked it just a bit. See the complete recipe below.

Ingredients

2 eggs
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 bananas, mashed
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup frozen sliced strawberries

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease 12 large muffin cups or line with paper liners.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, applesauce, oil, brown sugar, vanilla and bananas. Combine the flour, baking soda and cinnamon; Stir into the banana mixture until moistened. Stir in the strawberries until evenly distributed. Spoon batter into muffin cups until completely filled.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the tops of the muffins spring back when pressed lightly. Cool and enjoy!

My 100th Post

Yayyy!!! I'm on my 100th post. After starting this blog in August of 2008, who knew I would get to this milestone. (It definitely took me a while to get here ;) I obviously don't post on a daily or weekly basis, but I'm glad I have the opportunity to post when I want. I love sharing ideas and reading others as well. I come here to post information about Dolldine Designs, new finds, any kind of inspiration and creative things I'm doing or just see. I wonder if anyone's even reading? hahaha... I know my mom is, so "hi Mom!" and to my 3 current subscribers.... here's to you! Jewelry Organization

I love making something from nothing. Even if it's the smallest thing! I upgraded the bulletin board in our studio and decided I could use it for another purpose.... a jewelry organizer.

Everything is hanged by clear push pins I bought here and have the board hanging in the closet for easy access, but also hidden behind a door. I even pinned my flower hair clip I made as a cute accent!

Brandy's Winter Wonderland

We are so honored to make a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation on behalf of Brandy; a sixteen year old girl who has a heart condition. Her wish is to have a Winter Wonderland party with a Paris theme (I was told that is on her list of places to see). We created the invitations for her friends and family and hope she has the Winter Wonderland party she wished for!

Guest Book Ideas

Guest books are so fun. There are many different and creative ways to get your guests involved.... and best thing is you you can use them for any event! It's a great keepsake so why not?

From left to right: 1. Now this is what you call an all-in-one; a note written by your guests, then they take a picture with a Polaroid, slip both items into a pocket and after the event, you put it all together to form your guest book. I love that idea... what a unique scrapbook from a crafty bride! 2. This bride who also owns JL Designs bought an assortment of So CAL postcards and had her guests sign them. After the wedding, her mom sent them to her and her husband throughout the year to remind them of their special day. 3. This guest book idea would be great to display in your house. I know it would go great in ours! From time to time, you can sit down and read them together as a couple. 4. Elise designed this guest book with engagement pictures on the front cover and will be gluing mini envelopes inside. Guests will sign blank business card sized paper and insert them into their own mini envelopes. Sounds like another unique scrapbook idea!

And lastly, the wishing tree. As suggested by Dynamite Weddings, it can be used as a centerpiece and guest book in one. Cards are hung on the tree and guests can write in their well wishes. These are all great ideas for guest books, it's hard to pick just one. What do you plan on doing?

Q&A: Gift Registries

With so many gift registry options, figuring out which one is best for you as a couple can be overwhelming. There are TONS of department store registries ranging from the reasonably priced to the more extravagant boutiques. A registry becoming more popular are honeymoon and even... a mortgage registry? WoooW! With all this, what is the best way to inform your guests? Hopefully these can answer some of your questions.

Q: Can I put my gift registries on my invitation?

A: NO! A major NO! You're not suppose to put any type of registry information on your invitation because it's tacky. You can put these details on your wedding website, if you have one or on bridal shower invitations. You can also ask your family and bridal party to inform everyone.

Q: We don't want presents, but would prefer monetary gifts?

A: Again, this is considered rude to ask for money in any way, shape or form. You can ask your family and close friends to "spread the word", but never put it out there formally. Think about it... how would you feel if someone asked you for money if you were attending a wedding as a guest? Kinda uncomfortable and just weird.

If your guests ask, you can tell them you prefer cash, but inform your parents, immediate family and close friends so they can tell guests for you. There will still be some guests who prefer to give gifts so create a registry with a few items so you can give them options. If you want to read more tips on asking for cash gifts, click here.

Regardless on what you want, always remember that it is a gift and it it something that someone gives to you. Be thankful and appreciative because they don't have to give you anything!

When I first met Amy & John, they mentioned they saw us on our TV segment for NBC Throws a Wedding at The Prado. How exciting!!! We discussed more and more about their wedding and they are going for a theme of simple zen. And they are having it at the Coronado Community Center, which I heard is a beautiful venue! They loved the design from a previous invitation, so I thought I would incorporate it into their design.

It turned out beautifully! They requested other items so I'll post later, but until then.... Congratulations Amy and John!

A New Year

Happy 2010!!! Where did 2009 go because it seems it flew by so fast! Time just feels like that, wouldn't you agree? It was a great year and I can't wait to see what this years brings. I'm so happy to announce I actually kept up one of my "New Year Resolutions", Project 365! I finished an entire year with a photo every day and it feels so GREAT to have it completed!

Becky Higgins released another kit called Project Life which is the same concept and I finally got mine in! It's so pretty and it has so many things included, I cant wait to get started. I like how I created my own for 2009 because it's unique, but this kit makes it easy!

I'm just torn whether or not I should do this year again taking a photo every single day. I love the idea and it's so great to look back at the days, but I think I may change it up a bit.... just to keep things interesting!

Hand Made Hand Wrapped

For Christmas this year, I thought I should do something different with wrapping presents. On one trip to the grocery store I figured instead of using our fabric bags, we would asked for paper so that I can reuse it for this purpose. I cut them open and sponge painted it red. To embellish and make it pretty, I used a red glitter ribbon for the bow and put a silk white poinsettia and added a gold snowflake. I even made cute gift tags for them. It's beautiful, affordable and GREEN! Here's a completed gift...
